After you have been issued with an endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) for holding a mobile phone (MP10), or another mobile phone offence (MP20,30 or 40), this is the process that will be initiated by Thames Valley Police.
- After stopping you for a ‘mobile phone’ offence, a police officer will issue you with an endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice.
- Your driving licence (both parts if it is a new version) must be
surrendered at the roadside or at your nominated police station within
7 days.
- If you have been asked to produce other documents, e.g. insurance or MOT certificates, these must also be produced within 7 days.
- If you are unable to produce your driving licence within 7 days, you will not be offered a place on a Call Divert Workshop.
- If you would like to take up the offer of a Call Divert Workshop rather than accept the fine and penalty points, then DO NOT pay the £60 penalty.
- The Thames Valley Police Fixed Penalty Office will automatically send you an offer letter as soon as they can once they receive your ‘produced’ documents. You should return the relevant acceptance form within 14 days to take up the offer.
- Once you notify the police that you wish to attend a Workshop, they will refer your case to DriveTech CDS, the company that operates the Call Divert Scheme on behalf of the Thames Valley Police and Safer Roads Partnership.
- DriveTech CDS will then send you an offer letter advising you how to book a Workshop place. You can then book online or by telephone – DriveTech CDS ‘terms and conditions’ are on their website.
- Once booked, you will receive joining instructions from DriveTech CDS explaining the time, date and location of your Workshop.
PLEASE NOTE: If the police officer feels the circumstances of the mobile phone offence were particularly bad then you may not get the option of attending a Workshop but rather take you to court or give you a fixed penalty with 3 points. The officer will either ‘report you for summons’ or mark up the fixed penalty notice accordingly. If an officer issues you with a MP50 code, you will not get the option of attending a Workshop.
